“Fast forward and the COVID-19 Relief Fund pilot has mushroomed into something substantially bigger with the launch of Project 100. The massive cash assistance campaign, led by GiveDirectly, Propel and children’s education advocacy group Stand for Children, aims to provide $1,000 in cash directly to 100,000 families in need.

“We want to get cash transfers to as many of our users as quickly as possible,” says Propel founder Jimmy Chen.

Over $55 million of that $100 million has already been raised from anchor funders Schusterman Family Foundation and Blue Meridian Partners and seed funders Flourish Ventures, Google.org; Flu Lab, Wend Collective, Blue Haven Initiative, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and othersBacking also is coming from a roster of celebrities, including Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Ariana Grande and Camilla Luddington.”
